LAUSANNE: Unprecedented statistics about swimming, diving, and water polo were shared on World Aquatics’ digital platforms this summer during the world’s largest media event—the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The Paris 2024 Games featured 1,439 swimmers from 191 countries competing in swimming, diving, water polo, artistic swimming, and open water swimming. The three aquatics marquees were the Paris La Defense Arena, the Olympic Aquatics Centre, and the River Seine.
The actions and feelings from the 49 aquatic medal events provided during the XXXIII Olympiad were captured by the writers, photographers, and digital content developers at World Aquatics and shared on social media and other platforms for fans of aquatic sports worldwide.
In Paris 2024, World Aquatics witnessed mouthwatering audience and engagement numbers throughout the federation’s portfolio of digital media. It was a time for record-breaking, and not just from the playing field.
There were 609 million video views, 621 million interactions, and 1.3 billion impressions on World Aquatics’ social media channels.
With an additional 1.1 million fans joining the aquatics family at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, the World Aquatics digital community currently has 5.6 million members worldwide.
Compared to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, there has been a notable increase in key numbers, with the World Aquatics channels experiencing a +1,800% surge in social media impressions during the Games.
In comparison to the previous Olympic Games, audience numbers in Paris increased dramatically thanks to a skillfully designed schedule of new, original programming and archive material. This included the start of the star-studded “About Last Night” nightly recap presentation, which was held after the evening swimming medals session. In the studio, former Olympians and World Champions joined hosts John Mason and Bailey Jackson to share their insights from their post-race analysis and to offer their opinions on the action.
