Desirée, who goes by the online persona Wild Mother, is a Colorado mountain resident who shares videos with her 80,000 followers on raising her young daughter and holistic wellness. She is hoping that Donald Trump will be the next president.
Living in the suburbs of Denver, about 70 miles north, is Camille, a devoted advocate for gender and racial equality who has been a Democrat voter for the past 15 years and lives with a gang of rescue dogs.
Despite their stark political differences, the two women agree that Mr. Trump’s assassination attempts were orchestrated.
Both claim that separate social media posts that were pushed to their feeds earlier this month and the shooting in July influenced their opinions.
I discovered that dozens of posts on X with no supporting evidence that suggested both tragedies were staged have received over 30 million views.
Trump’s staff staged this for Democrat Camille to increase her chances of winning the election.
Wild Mother, who is already a follower of Qanoon, the erroneous conspiracy theory that charges that Donald Trump is fighting a covert war against a group of elite pedophiles who worship Satan, wants to think that Trump’s own team orchestrated the attack to paint his alleged adversaries as members of the “Deep State.”.
It’s said that the Deep State
One of the most common plot device in conspiracy theory literature is the notion that news events are created in order to influence the audience. According to Wild Mother, this alternative style of thinking is nothing new to her.
But according to Camille, this is the first time she has ever used the word “staged” in reference to a news story of this nature. She has always maintained that Covid-19 was real and was vehemently against any unfounded allegations that the 2020 election was manipulated.
However, she adds that she instantly realized that the shooting of Donald Trump during a Pennsylvania campaign event on July 13, 2018, when she was watching live on TV at home, thinking, “Oh, that’s staged.”
The manner in which Donald Trump was able to strike a
How the US Secret Service had let the shooting occur in the first place was one of her questions. Since then, the service’s director has resigned due to shortcomings from that day.
His intentions are still a mystery, leaving a lot of unanswered concerns. Camille’s thoughts kept spiraling from there.
Camille, suspicious that anything was amiss, looked to X for further information. She had begun to spend an increasing amount of time on the social media platform, formerly known as Twitter, years before the incident. She had started to follow a few pro-Democrat, anti-Trump accounts after developing an interest in them.
“I’ll be honest with you: I spend too much.
Recent modifications to X’s “For You” feed caused her to see more messages from accounts she does not follow, but which promoted political ideals. Many of these identities have also bought blue ticks on the website, which increase the visibility of their posts.
Therefore, when the first assassination attempt occurred, false conspiracy theories claiming it was staged were not only suggested to her feed, but they also gained credibility because they originated from other profiles who shared her political opinions regarding Donald Trump.
The majority of social media firms claim to have policies in place to safeguard users and lessen offensive information. The BBC reached out to X for comment, but X did not reply.
“As entertaining as a magic show.”
Having been dubbed “a weirdo, an alien, a diamond in the rough” offline, Wild Mother also resorted to social media to find her tribe and has amassed thousands of followers.
She tells me how she started sharing her opinions on natural health and childbirth in 2021 as we stood talking under a waterfall in the little hamlet where she lives.
Her views and likes began to accumulate when she began sharing unverified theories on what was going on behind the scenes of stories, including the collapse of the Baltimore bridge earlier this year or the health of the Princess of Wales.
She claims that since she was a little child, she has been surrounded by this “alternative idea about reality” and that we have been misled about the true events leading up to the assassinations of John F. Kennedy in the 1960s, 9/11 in 2001, and the Covid-19 pandemic.
When she started spending more time online during the pandemic and learned about the Qanoon movement, which she believes may be connected to all of these occurrences, she grew to admire Trump.
“There are things going on right now that I could never have imagined in my wildest dreams, right beneath our very noses. Additionally
Supporters of Qanoon were among the masses that violently protested against Joe Biden’s election victory on January 6, 2021, by storming the US Capitol building. Now, Wild Mother is inclined to accept the theory that she has come across on social media, according to which they may have staged Trump’s July shooting in order to implicate the Deep State.
But Wild Mother claims that based on internet posts, “good guys in the military” or “White Hats” have been conducting clandestine operations to oppose the Deep State. Additionally, a suggestion that surfaced on her feed stated that they fabricated the July attempt at assassination in order to demonstrate to the public the threat that Trump poses.
Wild Mother makes no claims as to being certain.
“I believe that right now, our nation needs to be saved from our government. It is an awful mess. A terrible mess, “says the woman.
It appeared as though any of them could have been manufactured once Wild Mother began to
wonder if a news event could have been.
It’s similar to discovering for the first time as a child that the magician is pulling a practical joke on you during a magic show. You now understand what a magic show performer is doing every time you attend one,” she says.
The more Camille and Wild Mother relied on social media, the more their real-world interactions deteriorated due to the views they internalized.
Conversations with some of Camille’s close relatives who back Trump are difficult for her, and Wild
Mother claims that this contributed to her breakup with her now-ex-husband, who was a strong opponent of conspiracy theories.
Does it become more challenging? Indeed. Did it cause a rift? Could that have been one of the factors that caused my marriage to fail? Perhaps,” says Wild Mother.
In the meantime, Camille became entangled in disputes on X, which made her cautious outside of it as well. It is somewhat unsettling, as I feel as though each time
The prevailing climate of distrust and discord affects not only the individual lives of these women, but also the larger community.
This broader idea that practically everything, including elections, is rigged and staged has resulted in hate crimes and threats against officials, election workers, and politicians across the United States.
According to Wild Mother, individuals are “walking a really fine line” between acting harmfully and seeking justice.
“Writing your senators racist epithets is not the solution. Do I think that you should speak up, though, if you were someone who actually conducted a study and discovered that there was a problem? Indeed,” she replies.
“I believe that each of us has a method for doing it. For them, it simply occurs.
Despite the fact that Camille and Wild Mother claim they have never threatened anybody and that they are compassionate, gentle individuals, their belief in society and its institutions has been
damaged by the mistrust that has been stoked, in part, by their social media feeds.
After being so against conspiracy theories, Camille now finds herself speaking in their terminology.
She seems to be among many who have been drawn into this way of thinking by the murder attempt in July and the way social media algorithms are pulling users farther into an internet realm that is disconnected from reality.
